2018 February | Montse Castellano
Montse Castellano says of the design “First of all I really wanted to try this mirror composition and then I wanted to mix up human and animal characters, since both are part of the market (humans shop, animals-like toys are on sale).”
2018 January | the Imposters
Mo Levy & John McDonald of Imposter Posters. Mo said they designed the poster around Ganesh as he is the God of the household and they wanted to show an array of things to be found at the Flea market from books, vintage collectibles, jewellery, badges, hats, furniture, yummy food and a lurcher, their favourite dog, as there’s always a few there.
2017 December | Sarah Moloney
Sarah Moloney decided that even though it was a Christmas market, that the poster image shouldn’t heavily communicate this. Instead the design and craft aspect of the market would be the sell that would encourage people to attend the market. The poster showed the type of items you would find at the market and gave a small nod to Christmas with the decorated cactus.
2017 November | Niamh McConville
Designed by Niamh McConville. When asked where her inspiration came from Niamh said “I am an illustrator and designer. I love using colourful, playful and eye catching illustrations in my work. My idea was to show some of the items you would usually find in flea markets. I chose a bright colour palette that would stand out on a dark background”.
2017 October | Conor Nolan
October’s poster is by illustrator Conor Nolan. Conor’s approach to this was to highlight some of the items for sale that have caught his eye at the Flea over a bunch of visits, and show what the Flea has to offer for visitors on the last Sunday of every month.
2017 September | Barbara Hoffman
When asked for her inspiration Barbara Hoffman said ‘The Dublin Flea Market is like a huge box full of absurd things. I haven’t found a whale, a dragon’s egg or a step dancing chicken there yet, but I am sure, if I’ll ever find them, it will be at the Dublin Flea market.’
2017 August | Tina Minorová
This months poster is designed by Tina Minorová from Slovakia, who while visiting her cousin in Ireland came to the Flea Market. She said “I wanted to create an impression of summer lightness and freedom. The feeling you have just before any big adventure. The excitement you feel when you are digging through a heap of antiquities knowing that you will find a big treasure today. Like a mariner discovering new lands.”
2017 July | Rossa Cassidy

2017 April | Jessica Rooney Deane
When asked where her inspiration came from, Jessica Rooney Deane replied “I really wanted to showcase all the cool things that you can find at the flea market. I wanted to make it look like a fun explosion coming from the title. I decided on paper and felt for a mix of textures. After all the pieces were made, I lay them out on the background colour and used bluetac under each one so it stood up from the page and created a nice shadow, and then photographed it.”

2017 February | Louise Baer
We love our February poster designed by our friend Louise Baer. When I asked her for a few lines about the inspiration behind the design, she wrote. ‘When wandering through the Dublin flea, you witness people looking for treasures, just like patient fishermen at sea, going in for the thrill of sometimes, finding that incredible catch. There is real beauty in turning somebody’s spare into your very own pearl.’
2017 January | AnneRose Wahl
This month’s ‘Retro Love’ poster is designed by AnneRose Wahl who lives in Berlin – the flea market mecca. When asked where she took inspiration for the design from she said ‘Usually people go to flea markets not to look for something, but to find something. It’s like falling in love; it seems to happen when you least expect it’. What a great explanation! We love people falling in love at the Flea with either objects or each other!
2016 December | Trevor Finnegan
Our beautifully vibrant Christmas Market design is by Trevor Finnegan from Revert Design. When asked where his inspiration for the design came from Trevor said “I’ve always been inspired by Art Deco and Pop Art and in particular The Memphis Group, which was an Italian design and architecture group founded by Ettore Sottsass in the 1980’s that designed furniture and objects using bright colours and asymmetrical shapes.
2016 November | Les Cullinan
This month’s poster is by the lovely Les Cullinan. When asked what his inspiration for the poster was he said ‘Using and Upcycling’. 2016 October | Eva Kelly
This month’s poster is designed by Eva Kelly. When asked where she got her inspiration from, Eva said ‘The idea was to show the lively mix of people and things at the Market. 2016 September | Linda Byrne
Designed and illustrated by Linda Byrne. When asked about her design Linda said “Working mostly within the fashion illustration industry, the inspiration for this poster design comes from my love of timeless style and classic design. I wanted it to feel “Stylishly Vintage” using soft pastels and warm browns. Sketching the classic Audrey Hepburn is always a source of inspiration.”
2016 August | Renato Cunha
When asked where he got his inspiration for the poster, Renato Cunha replied “Even before coming to Ireland to do an exchange, I came across the Dublin Flea Market on the internet and I really liked the concept of the event. Instantly, I set a goal: I wanted to create a poster for the Market. I drew it by hand, uniting elements that inspired me after visiting it a few times. Then, I scanned it into photoshop and the result you can see below.”
2016 July | Georgina Garrigan
This month’s poster was designed, and hand drawn, by Georgina Garrigan. The concept behind the poster is ‘to get to the Dublin Flea Market by any means’. The surreal idea of casually arriving to the market in a parachute after having just sky-dived from a plane adds a sense of excitement and humour.’
2016 June | Max Fedorov
Max Fedorov and Neil Murphy of Third Mind Design, when asked about their design, said “The concept of the artwork is based around the idea that the Dublin Flea Market acts as a beacon that brings people together to gather around endless piles of boxes filled with all sorts of amazing things. We wanted to explore possibilities of 3D printing the whole set and a 1-point perspective focus. Over 150 boxes got printed and wired with 100 LEDs to create the “Flea” pile which can only be read as a word from 1 specific focal point.”
2016 May | Helena Grimes
Artist and illustrator Helena Grimes describes having an addictive relationship with drawing. She indulges in mark making that takes her off to another world. A fine liner archival pen is never far from her grasp. Her drawings have a fable-like quality to them where the work illustrates people and feelings yet the human form is rarely seen. The animal is pure and innocent; less threatening and is also more universal. Her inspirations come from society, culture, books, myths, fairy-tales and of course life itself.
2016 April | Ellen Egan
When we asked Ellen Egan about her inspiration for the poster she said ‘Analogical work has always been a keen interest of mine and can often be seen in my work. Taking inspiration from the physicality of the term ‘Bric-A-Brac’ and the energy surrounding the Dublin Flea Market I’ve tried to encapsulate the two of these into the my illustration. The irregular shapes that float freely represent the diversity, activity, and the colourfulness at the Dublin Flea.’
2016 March | Vicky Knysh
March’s Flea Market poster is designed by Bulgarian designer Vicky Knysh. Her style is inspired by folk art, fairy-tales, children’s art, and that is why her work is often a balance between work and play.
2016 February | Georgina Garrigan
Designed and illustrated by Georgina Garrigan, her poster ‘Unexpected Finds’ “illustrates a wacky, surreal scene that is intended to portray the unpredictable nature of a visit to the Dublin Flea Market. For many market goers, the idea of not knowing exactly what one might find at any of its stalls is what holds the most appeal. It is the uncertainty and strange, psychedelic nature of the scene that is intended to grab the eye of the viewer and rouse curiosity.

2015 September | Niall O’Sullivan
This month’s artist Niall O’Sullivan wanted his design to represent the huge array of treasures to be found and the sense of adventure you get as you wander through the market. ‘The images that came to mind when I was designing the poster were of old illustrated children’s books. They manage to be comfortingly familiar while also being full of wonder and magic. Many of the objects in the poster are inspired by things that have actually been on sale in the market, some of which caught me by surprise. You never really know what you’re looking for until you find it.’
2015 August | Rachel Kiernan
When asked about her poster design, Rachel Kiernan said ‘the home in my poster is filled with lots of bits and bobs, each window tells a different story. All of the items in this house I have accumulated over time. Some toys are actually from my childhood that I re-discovered at a stall in the Dublin Flea Market a few years back; the moment I picked them up, all of my memories from playing with them rushed back.’
2015 May | Sharon Greene
After 7 years of organising the flea poster artists, Sharon Greene decided she would give a poster a go herself. ‘I took a photo of little blue bottles I bought at a car boot sale in Port Laoise, all a little worse for wear, with what I could find lying around in the yard. I love that even though they were filthy and some were cracked and broken they all looked so pretty together.’

2014 March | Elke Bauer
When asked what inspired her design, Elke Baurer said ‘I portrayed Cian, who is always on the lookout for the hidden gems — be it an old English table lamp or a delicious portion of organic Eggs Benedict. The monthly Dublin Flea is one of his favourite spots for finding inspiration, for browsing antiques, books and great food, and for mingling with a motley crowd of locals. His only fear is that his beard will have to go in order to make room for new tattoos as real estate is becoming scarce on his face.’
2013 December | Stu Bradfield
When asked about his poster design, Stu said the following ‘I wanted to do something photographic and my initial idea was to shape the word ‘Flea’ out of typical flea market fare and shoot. The Fleas loved the idea but after giving it more thought, I realised that for what I had in mind, I’d need an aircraft hanger and a truck! I shelved it until Sharon asked me to consider it for a MUCH more manageable 5th anniversary poster.
